Vancouver is unbeaten in regulation in their last 10 games (7-0-3) while the Avalanche have not tasted defeat in regulation in their last four contests (2-0-2).
The Colorado Avalanche know that they can hang with Vancouver – beating them is another story altogether. On February 4th, the Avs were 35 seconds away from defeating the Canucks for the first time in regulation in a staggering 14 games!
They lost that game in a shootout brining their record to 0-2-12 in their last 14 against Vancouver.
However, Coach Joe Sacco likes the way that the team has been playing of late (2-0-2 in their last four).
Colorado is 19th in the NHL in goals for and 18th in goals against but they do own the league’s 8th ranked power play.
Paul Stastny has five multi-point games in his last 15 outings and has four points in his last three, Gabriel Landeskog has two goals and an assist during a mini-three game points streak and David Jones has recorded five points in his last three games.
Matt Duchene will travel with the team but likely won’t suit up Wednesday leaving a big hole in the Avalanche offense.
In goal, expect Jean-Sebastien Guigere to start after Seymon Varlamov lost his fourth straight game against St. Louis on Saturday. Giggy is 2-1-1 with a 1.94 goals against average and a .935 save percentage in his last four starts.
The Vancouver Canucks are getting used to playing more than 60 minutes – 10 of their last 13 games have gone to extra time including five of their last six games that have gone to a shootout.
Still, a 9-1-3 streak has Vancouver a whopping 16 points up in the Northwest Division. Vancouver currently sits second in the Western Conference, two points behind the scorching Detroit Red Wings.
Vancouver continues to own the league’s 4th best offense. David Booth and Ryan Kesler have led the way – Booth has five goals and four assists in 11 games and Kesler has scored in six of nine games, tallying eight points over that stretch.
The Sedin line was held without a shot on Monday night but Daniel Sedin has seven goals in 14 games against Colorado and Henrik Sedin has seven goals and 12 assists during Vancouver’s recent dominance of the Avs.
It is not yet clear who will start in goal on Wednesday night. Cory Schneider has a three game win streak against Colorado and is 2-0-0 with a 1.94 goals against average in his last two starts overall and Roberto Luongo is 5-0-3 in his last eight games with a save percentage of .933.
